I miss you all like crazy. My first week in Melbourne I have been to hell and back (literally). I arrived super early on a Friday morning. As I stepped off the sky bus I had entered a new world. When you visit Melbourne everything is cool, calm. Trams and trains seem fun and holiday like. But as I looked out from Southern Cross station I thought "Holy crap".
My first step was to find some oxygen (coffee) and organize myself with this weird My-ki thing. You load it with money and use it to travel on everything from trams to trains. I knew things in Melbourne were different when the most popular drink was soy flat white. As I sat in the cafe I looked across the street. First I saw Abby from NCIS walk past, then a mad scientist with a fro, then the Joker. "What is going on? Melbourne is awesome". Then I saw these guys and decided to follow. Turns out Australian Comic con (with Stan Lee) was on. Stay tuned for a full update and costume pictures.
After a long morning I headed to my new veterinary nurse job. I caught the tram all by myself. The practice was so different then my beloved Canberra job. It was a very long day. I came home to my Auntie's house to find her and these amazing cupcakes she'd made and a happy little puppy called Maddie to keep me company.
The next day I headed out on my own to work. This is my new friend that I pat on the way to and from the city each day. Here kitty kitty. I miss my cats Sausage and Pickle.
By the time I got to work I found out there had been a shooting across the street. I think it was a gang thing. I had never been near or even heard of anything like it in Canberra. Life is so different here and this unfortunately was an omen of things to come.
By the end of my 3 hr Sunday shift I had decided to leave the vet practice. The things I saw happen there and the treatment of both it's clients and more so animals will haunt me forever. I was jobless, terrified and thus begun hell week.
My family took me out for a super nice lunch straight after my shift ended and helped me make a game plan. I applied for every vet job in Melbourne and handed out over 100 resumes to coffee shops, cake stores and retail. After 8 interviews and an exhausted Cazz I got a job. It's at a burger joint and I am just so happy. I have the best boss in the world. Thank you, you seriously saved my life.
I ended my week in hell at my new favourite coffee shop called Seddon Deadly Sins. It is by far the best cup of coffee I have had while in Melbourne and full of nice people and fantastic Batista's.
So in 1 week I went from my perfect life in Canberra, to hell. And I made it through the other side. This week re affirmed the person I am. Giving up what seems like a dream job simply for my beliefs in what is right. I know it was hard for some to understand but the nurse in me could just not be a part of what was happening. I can't wait to show Melbourne what else this Nerd is capable of.
