Two weekends ago an uber secret trip to my hometown Canberra was organized by a great friend Jemima. I was to be a surprise for one of my best friends in the world Penny. She is getting married in January to the love of her life in California and I am unable to attend. This trip to Canberra was a chance to reminisce about our old college days and focus on what is to be an amazing future for Penny and her fiance' Kat.
Penny was told nothing of my trip. When her mum and sis drove Penny up to our college and handed her a green shirt (our house called Wirana's colours) Penny was confused. Then I appeared with balloons and a sign reading "Wirana loves soon to be Mrs Cavanaugh". I was also in my old school uniform which gave Penny the idea. She was so shocked to see me, as we haven't seen each other since my wedding 2 years ago. Such a huge moment in our 14 year friendship that I will never forget.
I then did pretty much the only rebellious thing I've ever done. We hopped some fences into the school and had an all green picnic (including plates and drinks) on our old school oval. We ate, danced and just could not believe how much had changed since we were here 9 years ago.
After a long and emotionally exhausting day we headed back to Penny's house where her family had a huge BBQ and we made some crafts for the wedding. Hurrah for my super glue skills. Such a perfect day, it meant so much to me to be able to spend that special time with my Penpen.
The next morning I awoke early, got dressed and drove back to my beloved Trash n' treasure market. The smell of weird was in the air and this was by far one of my biggest toy hauls yet.
Jonah Jameson 90s, Spiderman 90s, Beldar Clorhone Aka Conehead (only one I needed from the set), Ben Affleck Dare Devil, Supergirl, Tarzan as a young man, Mars attacks, and two 90s Catwoman.
Penntopper of 90s Batman Mcdonalds collection, rad snake dude from He-man, my first ever Pinkie Pie, Daisy Duck, alien from Space Jam, Genie from Aladdin, evil warthog from Tailspin and Megavolt from Darkwing duck
Little lamb from rad 1980's Lego series Fabuland.
After Trash n' Treasure I rushed off to meet up with the ever wonderful Emma. She looked soo pretty that day I couldn't stop smiling. I also got to meet her boyfriend Raphael. He is not a ninja turtle like I thought, but a really rad dude.
It was finally time to head back to my parents house after a long weekend of running around. First I hung out with my beloved rabbit Jobe who is having the time of her life living with my parents. They spoil her. Look at that little grumpy face.
Then I made my poor old dad get down all their Christmas decorations so I could set them up before I flew out that afternoon. I even called my brother and made him drive around to put the star on top. My Mum and Dad's tree holds so many happy memories. Christmas has always been a special time for us. We've never had a bad one except one when I was sick, but it was still magical.
These are my favorite Christmas decorations my parents own. Christmas ducks. They make no sense and I love them.
After 2 and a bit long days I flew back to Melbourne exhausted but elated. I had not been back to Canberra for 6 months. I feared that going back would make me want to move back, but it was quite the opposite. As I arrived into Melbourne on the skybus the Melbourne skyline took my breath away. It was great to see my friends and family, but that is all Canberra has to offer now. I had left so abruptly and didn't get to say goodbye properly. This was the closure I so desperately needed. Thank you Jemima for this amazing opportunity and I hope Penny had as much fun as I did.
Canberra I hate to love you and leave you, but it's time to get back to my life in Melbourne.
