This year Liam and I thought we would be spending Christmas by ourselves in Melbourne. 3 weeks ago Liam's parents rang to tell us our Christmas present was to fly to Canberra to be with the family for Christmas. We were so excited to go back and see all our friends and family during the silly season. So on the 23rd of December we packed up our bags and headed back to our hometown.
Our first day back was hectic but fantastic. We spent the day running around Canberra doing some last minute shopping and seeing all our friends and spending time with family. We had coffee with Pete (yet again I have no idea why Liam is making this face) in the city. Not much had changed except for a new burrito store. It was hard to find a good cup of coffee, so we just got a really bad one and sat and talked for ages.
When we dropped in to see our super pals Blake and Kym and their two amazing kids, Kym was busy preparing for Christmas. The house was full of delicious smells and things to eat like these adorable reindeer chocolate cups. Kym is such a clever cook, and it always surprises me how little she thinks of her amazing cooking skills. Being around Kym's baking is instantly welcoming and feels like home. It was great to spend some much needed time with them all and relax for the first time in ages. We went to bed as early as possible after watching Hi-5 on the Christmas Carols and tried to sleep while waiting for Santa.
It's Christmas morning and I was one excited Cazz. I woke Liam up at 5am to give him Christmas stocking (we had our present swap before going to Melbourne. Stay tuned). We then packed up our bag of gifts and headed to my brother's house for Christmas fun.
For the past 16 years this C.D has been played first when we arrive for the present swap. My brother threatens to throw it out the window like a frisbee, but he never does. Christmas doesn't start until I hear the first few notes of "Merry Christmas Baby"and Taylor Hanson's sweet voice.
I am spoilt every year because people know how much I love presents and also I am easy to buy for. Among the rad gifts from my family were a new pair of grey and green Van's, a tea strainer, cake book and the best gift ever Peter Alexander Little Mermaid pajamas. I was so excited when I saw them all wrapped in their pretty bag. I have never owned such a special pair of bedwear.
We then headed to Liam's parents house to watch little boys rip open gifts. Nothing makes me happier. From Liam's family I got Harvey Pekar's Cleveland comic, a tandem bicycle ride to a fancy restaurant in Melbourne and a pink trolly bag for when we go vegetable shopping at the market.
3 days earlier Liam and I had our Christmas at home in Melbourne. We opened all our gifts to each other and after dropping the cats off at their hotel we had a yummy breakfast at The Corner Store.
Liam went all out this year. I got an amazing Poison Ivy statue designed by the radical Adam Hughes. She is so feminine and I love the details in her face.
Liam got me an amazing limited edition comic by Chris Ware. It's made up of 14 different pieces of work- Golden books, flipbooks, newspapers. Amazing. The comics are about a women dealing with loss. It's so beautiful. I can't wait to read it.
I also got a new Monster high called Venus Mcflytrap. She has rad pink and green hair and an undercut. An old school Catwoman figure (the first I own of her in this costume) and the next 2 walking deads I'm up to. Liam sure knows me well.
Christmas this year was unlike any I've ever had. It was great to get rad presents but what it really made me do is reflect on what is most important. Friends and Family. So much has changed this year, new friends, new experiences, a new life. It's nice to know that though many things have changed, some still stay the same and always will. Hope you guys had a wonderful Christmas.
