I thought it might be fun to share with you some of my all time favourite comic book artists and so I bring you my all time favourite Mr Adam Hughes. He is well known for making super ladies look like pin up girls and always has the main stars in situations you would never see them in. Adam has no formal training in art, he's also designed some of the best limited edition statues of all time. But what are his all time best pieces of cover art I hear you ask?
5: Justice League America #34
How can you not love this image of Blue Beetle and Booster Gold relaxing topless by the pool? I love that they are completely ignoring all the fighting going on the in background. But what first caught my eye was that glorious green hair. So bright and beautiful.
4: Zatana #11
Zatana works as a magician so I love how Adam has drawn a beautiful vintage looking poster for one of her shows and then has that creepiness poking out the side. The image of Zatana seems to be in motion and looks like she is performing magic right there and then. Adam Hughes has a way of making you feel involved in his images.
3: Batgirl #1
I have never seen Batgirl look so heroic. Batgirl looks as if she is flying towards you, away from the light and into the dark. Her costume looks flawless and I love all the detail in her glove. And I can not get over how beautiful she looks. That flaming hair and her makeup is amazing.
2: Wonder Woman #177
I first saw this cover up on a comic shop wall and I practically ran to to it. There is so much I love about this image. The way Wonder Woman is sun lit in the sky. She looks so much like a hero should and so feminine and beautiful. Adam has drawn the cover to make you one of the Girl Scouts as you hold your Wonder Woman comic and look up to the sky to see her flying past. Breath taking, and I really love the expression on the girl scouts face. That's what I would look like if Wonder Woman flew over my head.
1: Catwoman #56
The first time I saw this my heart skipped a beat. Catwoman is often portrayed as flawless, perfect and overly sexual. But from this image you can see that Catwoman has had a rough night. It's late night in a neon lit diner. She has been in a fight and has a little band aid on her nose. She looks tired, her makeup is all smudged. But Catwoman has that look on her face like she's just seen something or someone she likes. And that cup of coffee she's drinking makes me crave more coffee every time.
Do you guys know Adam Hughes? Which of these is your favourite cover? Stay tuned for more comic art goodness in the coming weeks. I can't wait to share my next one with you.
