A few weeks ago I hopped on a plane back to my home town to be matron of honor at my friends Leah and Simon's wedding.
I was in Canberra for over a week just to do wedding things. So with a lot of free time to kill I packed a huge amount of comics and tattoo study material.
I was lucky to stay with my Mum and Dad which was great. I haven't spent much time with them outside of skype for nearly a year. We did so much together like going to the movies, drinking coffee at my favourite coffee shops and watching cartoons. Aren't they adorable?
My mum is a collector just like me. She collects famous people and film Barbies. My favourites are the Grease and Elvis ones.
I spend a lot of my time inside, so it was great to hang outside with my beloved rabbit Jobe. I had to leave Jobe with my parents as there is just no room in my one bedroom apartment for her. Jobe sure is spoilt now with her own veggie patch and cuddles galore.
There were so many friends to catch up with, many I have not seen in over a year. We laughed and drank a lot of coffee. The most exciting moment was meeting my friend's wife whom she met in U.S.A. They are so happy and in love, it just feels my heart with so much happiness.
For some reason almost every person I caught up with had presents for me. I felt terrible as I had not bought any for them. I got souvenirs from New Orleans, craft supplies and my friend Camile handmade these Adventure Time plushies for me. My mind exploded. She didn't use a sewing machine, just her hands and a needle and thread. Amazing.
In between running around seeing friends I took the time to catch up on my Disney film study. My Mum is a huge Disney fan like me. I got through most of these in a week. I think I stayed up watching Disney until 3 or 4am many nights.
One freezing night I headed into the city to visit the comic book store I worked at called Impact Comics. It is such a happy and exciting place to be with a huge indie section. They had so many things I wanted like a Harley Quin costume, Wonder Woman statue and Star Wars handbag. I miss working there so much.
The city also had this rad ice rink set up for winter. It has to be one of the coolest *pun intended* things I've ever seen in Canberra. So beautifully lit with heaps of people skating late into the night.
The day before the wedding my Mum took me fabric shopping. Canberra always has the best range of geek fabric as it's such a mainstream place. People want flowers and cupcakes not Star Wars and Marvel Comics. I can't wait to get sewing so I can add new hair bows to the Nerd Burger Store.
The next day was Leah and Simon's wedding. We had such a fun day. I looked like a blue haired Audrey Hepburn and Leah looked like a Disney princess. The music was so much fun, Leah did ban Hanson though. These guys are old school rockers. They played heaps of Misfits, System of a Down and Iron Maiden. Soo much fun rocking out with such fancy dresses on. Congratulations Leah and Simon.
It was a crazy long week but so much fun. It was my first proper holiday in over a year. I loved spending time with family and friends, catching up on old times. I also loved having some time to myself to unwind, relax and geek out on Disney. Wait till you guys see what I got up to the day I left.
