Last time we were at the Camberwell market Liam was looking at rad toys at someone's stall when he pointed at a mug and casually said "That look's like Daniel Clowes's art". I stopped sipping my coffee, ran over and snatched the mug from the table.
"Omg Liam....... It is. It's a flipping Eightball Comics mug."
Eightball is an independent comic book series first published in 1989. The writer is the one and only Daniel Clowes writer of Ghost World, Wilson, The Death Ray and Pussey just to name a few. The comics in Eightball were the best parts of Daniel's writing. Gross, crass and huge rants on random topics. Many of Daniel's most famous works begun as short stories in the Eightball comic book series.
As I held that pristine mug in my hands I was overcome with joy. This is a super rare, I have never seen it for sale and there is only one picture of it on the entire internet. I seriously had to use my asthma puffer because I was so excited. As I approached the stall holder to ask how much it was I said to Liam "$100AUS is about as high as I can go". And with that the stall man said "You can have it for $5AUS". I just about died. This is by far the best and most impressive thing I have ever found at a second hand market. I don't think the guy realized just how important that mug was to me. Best day ever!
