Well 2013 comes to a close tonight. It is crazy to think just how much I have accomplished this year. I really wanted to take this time to reflect and Thank You guys from the bottom of my heart. All of this happened because of your love and support.
What did you do in 2013 that you have never done before?
I have tried so much this year that I never would have dreamed of. Moving to Melbourne has given me so much motivation and drive to reach for the things I want. In February my blog became a .com and helped me meet even more rad nerds. I begun my YouTube channel and as of this week have hit 400 subscribers. I never thought I would be brave enough to do YouTube and you have no idea how much your subs and comments mean to me.
Did you keep any of your resolutions?
I failed on so many of my 2013 resolutions. Due to lack of funds I still have over 15 hours of tattooing left on my Disney sleeve and I couldn't finish Gossip Girl, it was just too bad to sit through. I did however learn 4 songs on my Ukulele (Not far from my goal of 10) including the Adventure Time theme song. I am still Vegan and also proud to say I did learn how to sew my own skirts.
What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Obviously starting cosplay and making my Carrie Kelley costume all by myself. After being inspired by my friend Anna over at Glitzy Geek Girl I finally thought I could create something. With very little sewing knowledge, lack of sleep and a lot of coffee I made a costume that I was proud of, have one of my idols Dan Slott take a photo of me and most importantly make people smile.
What was your biggest failure?
I'd have to say going to a hardware store to buy silicone for crafting resulting in chemical burns to my face and eye. I have never been so scared in my whole life. The staff were just kids and had little first aid knowledge. I had to talk them through what to do all while thinking I'd just made myself blind in one eye. All this just on my 30 minute lunch break.
A year of meeting my idols
I have been unbelievably lucky to meet so many of my idols this year and share some truly spectacular moments. Meeting comic book writer Gail Simone and chatting like we were old friends. Having beautiful comic book artist Nicola Scott hug me at two different conventions. Having artists Terry and Rachel Dodson sign one of my all time fave comic book covers and shaking hands with David Hasselhoff. Meeting the writer of She Hulk, Dan Slott and thanking him face to face for what that comic book did for me and my life. But the best moment was hanging out twice in the city with one of my favourite comic book writers of all time Lucy Knisley. I don't think she will ever understand what an impact on my life her art has made.
Cutting off all my hair using dog grooming scissors. I miss my long hair so much. I have not used peroxide in over 2 months hoping to get some health back into my hair so it will grow quicker. Also half assing my Enid- Ghost World cosplay. I had been really unwell, growing out a mullet and had just got back from Canberra. I am now re working it to wear to a con in 2014.
Favourite TV show of the year?
I have spent so much of the year trying to finish whole series of TV Shows. I watched and loved everything from True Blood to Orange is the new black to Seinfield. I would have to say my favourite is Jersey Shore. As someone who has never been so much as tipsy or done a drug I found it so interesting to watch the entire series. Seeing the Situation as an alcoholic finally come to terms with his drinking problem actually made me cry. And my beloved Snookie finally finding love and falling pregnant.
What are you most thankful for?
My wonderful nerds out there reading my blog, watching my videos and being my friends. I am so lucky to have you in my life and Thank You from the bottom of my heart for all your support. And also my loving husband. I still can't believe I am married to the hot guy who loved Troma as much as me who I met at a party (pretty much the only party I've ever been to) over 11 years ago.
Favourite comic book of the year?
It has to be Hawkeye trades one and two. (Watch my review) I had never read any story with this fellow except for an uber violent mini series many years ago. Thanks to this comic I fell in love with Matt Fraction's whitty and honest writting and good lord Aja and Pulido's art is so unique and pretty. I loved meeting a new idol fellow Haweye Kate Bishop, adventuring with the rad dog Lucky and I could look at Hawkeye's abs for hours.
A life lesson I learnt this year.
"Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn, in which case, be a unicorn"
This has been the best year of my life. I have made amazing friends from around the world, met and thanked so many of my idols and taken nerd-burger.com to a new crazy unicorn world. I can't wait to show you guys what I have in store for 2014
Happy New Year!
