I think it's about time I introduced you to my favourite comic book artist of all time. Not only is he an amazing artist but he also created the best superhero of all time Madman, writes and plays music and is an all round nice guy. What I love about Micheal's art is the bold bright colours, his portrayal of strong and beautiful women and the quirky nature of his subjects.
5: It Girl And The Atomics #1
From the moment I saw this cover I fell even more in love with the beautiful It Girl. The way Michael drew her with the sneaky nipple point to the curve of her body made my jaw drop. That speech bubble still makes me laugh to this day. So very sassy. She looks amazing and so very feminine. I love the really bold colours as well which you nerds will notice is one of Michael's trade marks.
4: The Superman Madman Hullabaloo #3
Madman is such an oddball character so it was really exciting for a fangirl like me to see him paired up with the likes of Superman for a three part special. My favourite part of this cover are the boils on the evil guys skin and the beret. I searched for a copy of this comic for years and it wasn't until I worked at a comic book store that I was lucky enough to have my boss give me his copy.
3: Solo #7
By now you all should know just how much I love Adam West especially when he does the batutsi. When the variant covers for the rad anthology Solo #7 came out I couldn't believe my eyes. Adam West drawn by Michael Allred. He even did a similar variant with Wonder Woman that was so well received that Mac Cosmetics paired up with Michael Allred for a cosmetics range based on his illustration.
2: FF #2-#5
There is no way you could include just one of these four amazing covers for FF #2-#5. When all lined up next to each other they make one complete picture featuring Antman, Medusa, Ms Thing and the stunning She Hulk. True to his form Michael poses each character in completely different ways true to each characters traits.
1: Madman Atomic Comics #16
This is not only my favourite Michael Allred cover but my favourite comic book cover of all time. I remember the first time I saw this on new comic book day. As I walked down the shelves it caught my eye. Seeing Madman so casual in his love heart shorts crossing the road with some of my all time favourite characters. I was lucky enough to get a limited signed and numbered print of the original painting. It hangs next to my bed and makes me smile everyday.
