What I Wore: Comic Book Girl
To most people this shirt seems like any normal shirt. But to me it is life changing. After 8 years of veterinary nursing the stress and depressing nature of the job had got to me. I was letting my veterinary team down, always grumpy and not sure what to do. In stepped All Star Comics on their valiant white horse. To say comic books saved my life is no longer just a figure of speech. I have left the life of Veterinary nursing behind and dived head first into my new job at a comic book store. I will miss my family at the vet so much, but it was time to move on. I don't think I have ever been this happy in my whole life. It's exciting, stressful, fulfilling and sometimes like I'm living in a dream. So you see... this shirt... is in fact... magical.
I have been reading comics for as long as I can remember. The first ones I ever read were Archie and Tales from the crypt. Whenever I have needed a friend a comic has been there to help, to guide me in times of stress and to keep me awake on long train trips.
One of my biggest influences in life has been Adam West (Batman) and Burt Ward (Robin) in the 1960's Batman TV series. As a teenager I watched reruns on repeat. It shaped me into the person I am today and taught me that it's always cool to do the right thing and that crime doesn't pay. I am really excited to hear that they are finally releasing the full 1960's batman series on DVD/Blu ray this year. I am going to pre order the special edition which includes a letter and personal photos from Adam West.
Life can be funny. When Liam and I made the decision to move to Melbourne just over two years ago I never imagined life could be this good. At first I struggled to find a job, working at a burger joint until 2am just to pay the bills. I now wake up everyday excited for life and feel like myself again. Thank you all for standing by me over the past couple of months as I sorted my life out. I love you guys and can't wait to share this next chapter of my life with you.
