I was super lucky to score a day off to go to Supanova expo yesterday. A yearly pop culture convention here in Melbourne. There were lots of famous people from Sci Fi and super hero TV shows visiting but I was going for one reason only. To meet writer and co creator of Spider-Gwen, Jason Latour. I dolled myself up as one of my favourite characters Sinestro and headed off to the showgrounds for the morning.
This Batgirl was incredible and to make me blush an even brighter shade of pink, was so excited to see someone dressed as Sinestro. It really made me feel special. She put so much effort into her costume and every single photo she took.
These two were just too adorable to handle. I loved Han Solo's little Darth Vader helmet and the unique take on Princess Leia. I was surprised I didn't see more cosplay from the Force Awakens especially no Poe Damerons. I was sure it and Rei would be the most popular costumes this year.
From the moment I saw this Steven Universe I had to take a photo. I love that she even had his little thongs and a ukulele. I have become such a huge fan of that show over the past 2 months. I watch it nearly every single day. The convention was filled with people cosplaying the Steven Universe characters from Rose Quartz to Peridot. I couldn't stop smiling. A lot of the booths were selling fan art of Steven Universe as well. Even though we are meant to be saving for our trip to Japan I just couldn't help myself and had to buy a few things.
I picked up these amazing Steven Universe stickers from a lovely artist named Sarah Talbot. Her art style is so sweet and lovely. It was hard to stick to such a small budget, but I can't wait to put these stickers on something very special.
I also managed to grab a happy poo badge from Erin Hunting as well as a stunning book of illustrated short stories book by Regine Clarke.
After waiting an hour (He was late to his table) we were finally able to meet Spider Gwen writer and co creator Jason Latour. He was very nice and liked my moustache. I was super lucky to be able to have him sign this Spider Gwen variant and take a photo with me. What a rad dude.
My other favourite moment from the day was meeting long time pen pal Demi. We have been online friends and writing letters to each other for years. It was so crazy to finally hug her and she her smiling face in real life. I loved her kawaii outfit and she had so much glitter on her face. I can't wait to hang out for real when you visit next.
It was a long morning, we were done and dusted by 12:30pm as Liam had worked the night shift and come straight to the convention with me after work. It was time for bed. Supanova had a weird feeling this year. Anime, Manga and pop Vinyls had taken over in all forms. I didn't see many amazing comic book costumes or things to buy this year, but it was wonderful hanging out with friends and dressing up. I am hoping to try out a new costume at the next convention and now realise comedic costumes are the ones that make me the most happy. Every person that saw me as Sinestro smiled and I got lots of compliments. I love that costume so much, even though I my skin is now stained the same colour as my hair.
